Ascender was a Artificial and Natural Rope Climb robot from Northumberland. It debut in the 2001 Techno Games, competing in the Artificial rope Climb, where it got to the Grand Final but lost, getting Silver. In 2002 it competed in the Natural Rope Climb it once again got to the Final where it once again lost getting Silver again.

In its Heat it faced Climbatize. Both Climbatize and Ascender were able to climb the rope quickly. Both robots were evenly matched during the initial run. However, as Climatize began to struggle half way, Ascender was able to keep going at its speed and was successful in finishing in 9.77 seconds. Climbatize failed to reach the end with in the remaining few milliseconds despite a decent run.

In the Grand Final it faced High Climber. In the final Ascender and High Climber, having gained the quicker times, were fighting for Silver and Gold. As the rope climbing began, shockingly High Climber failed to moved allowing Ascender to quickly get half way up the rope. However, High Climber came back to life and shot straight up and won at 2:97 seconds beating Ascender.

2002[]

In the Heat it faced Hose-A. Although Hose-A got the faster start, it was no competition for Ascender 2 as it travelled up the rope very quickly and managed to reach the top of the rope at a time of 16:63 seconds. Hose-A gotten stuck halfway through and was unable to finish.

In the Semi Finals it faced Skeletron. Ascender 2 got off quickly while the favourites Skeletron failed to move for the first two seconds, by which point Ascender 2 had climbed a quarter of the way up. Skeletron eventually got moving but the distance between it and Ascender 2 was large as Ascender 2 climbed its way to the top in a time of 14:40 seconds. Skeletron eventually finished at around 27:69 seconds.

In the Grand Final it faced RC-1. RC-1 got the quicker start and sped its way up the rope while Ascender followed after just as quickly. RC-1 was quick up the rope as it managed to get to the top in World Record fashion. Ascender 2 managed to become immobile half way up, although it didn't matter as RC-1 had already won.
